What have I learned this year? Part 1.5!
2008-11-19 16:44:57
What does a year of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Lettering look like?

Like-a-this.

My...
Thats... really bad ticking.

Oh, and I love on the other post how I and the majority are now 'message board warriors'. Like our opinion doesn't matter.

Anyway, I'm fond of Stern but not so much that I gonna read your stupid BNDised Spidey. Neither is Shocker, Harry's reason for being alive, Aunt May's antics as 'clueless granny (aren't we glad she'll never be allowed to snuff it, folks?) or the Menace reveal (its Lily, people, it can't be anyone else. Well unless its ANOTHER person we've never met) going to change that.

So until you guys actually check the dropping sale figures (for example how the figures for post-NWTD issues are the same if not less as pre.) and figure out the truth (People hate Spidey post OMD! CHANGE THINGS BACK!) then make mine Avengers, or X-Men, or Fantastic Four, or a comic that doesn't insult and ignore its once beloved reader family.

Praise
I have been a long time reader since Amazing #97 back in the 70's when my older brother got me collecting. I really had my doubts about the ending the marriage thing and have to admit that even I thought about dropping the title after all these years but I stuck around.

I'm glad that I did too. I will have to say that I have really enjoyed the book and love the fact that it comes out almost every week. In the past I collected all the other Spidey books so switching to the trice monthly format was not a problem.

The quality for this run has been very high and I just wanted to thank all those involved and to say I look forward to what you have planned.

Love the past! Embrace the future!

Thanks!

Right sentiment, poor execution
Here's the deal: I know what the writers at AMS were trying to do by getting rid of Mary Jane, but the execution was horrible. They wanted to get Spidey back to his roots as a single guy? Fine. But having the slate wiped clean, essentially by magic, is an affront to any reader with brain. It's almost as bad as having it all be a dream...

Why couldn't Mary Jane just get fed up with being kidnapped, shot at, and entangled (no pun intended) in all problems that come with being Spider-Man's wife? They could have gotten a divorce, and it would have been powerful and realistic. A whole host of great stories would have been born out of it. And Marvel could have always had them get back together 10 or 20 years down the line if they so chose.

Sigh... It's also odd that the Letters to the Editor section is seemingly run by someone who went to the Kim Jong Il school of journalism. Every one (except a single issue) has rave reviews for characters like..."Freak" and the direction of the book.

I've liked the issues by Wells and Waid, but the quality of writing the rest of the time is too spotty to really want to continue shelling out hard-earned cash three times a month.
